Lucky Cat by Gordon Ramsay

My birthday dinner was so special. My boyfriend surprised me with a reservation at Gordon Ramsay’s new restaurant in Miami called The Lucky Cat. I’m a big Gordon Ramsay fan and have been dying to try one of his restaurants, so this experience was so much fun for me.

The Lucky Cat is a new modern Asian Restaurant in South Beach Miami. Upon arrival the staff greeted us warmly and escorted us to our table. The ambience was sexy, the burgundy leather and suede seats with the dark wood paneled walls were stunning. The tables were placed so thoughtfully, each having it’s own spotlight so you could read your menu, but a soft light so it wasn’t blinding you during your meal. It was a very romantic choice for my birthday dinner.

Drinks

We started off with drinks, I had the Sozu which was this beautifully crafted cocktail with a genius combination of suntory roku gin, plum blossom sake, yuzu, coconut, and rhubarb. It was slightly tart, not very sweet, creamy, and refreshing all at the same time. The rim had a flavor that reminded be of chamoy. I couldn’t get enough, I would go back just for that cocktail.

Appetizers

Now let’s dive into food, we started with the Pea Guac and Rice Crackers, which was a delightful take on guacamole. The english peas and mint gave it a light and refreshing flavor. We loved it so much we were disecting the entire dish so we could try and recreate it at home.

Omakase

I love sushi, and more specifically, Nigiri. My boyfriend says that I’m a sushi snob because I refuse to eat low quality sushi. If the fish isn’t cold and tender and the rice isn’t warm and soft, I don’t want it. Japan has made me even more picky in this department. But you didn’t have to twist my arm to order the Nigiri Omakase 10 pc because I knew it would be top notch, and I was right. Every piece was so beautiful, I could’ve sat there and eaten it all night. My favorite piece was the TORO (fatty tuna) and the Ikura. This particular dish is based on chef’s choice so the pieces aren’t preset but I recommend trying this over the individual Nigiri pieces because the price for amount of food is more worth it than the Omakase in my opinion.

Dumplings

We ended up ordering the Lamb Dumplings next. We love lamb but this was our least favorite dish of the night. Although I enjoyed this more than Brenton, we both felt like the lamb flavor over-powered the other ingredients in the dumplings and broth. The wontons, however, were cooked perfectly and had the perfect thickness and texture. If you absolutely love the gamey flavor of lamb then you might like this dish better than we did, but we probably wouldn’t order this again.

Entree

For our entree we stuck to the fish theme and got the Korean-Spiced Black Cod which was devine and our favorite dish of the night. The cod was cooked to perfection and the kimchi had the perfect level of heat, vinegar and crisp. This was definitely one of our favorite dishes at a restaurant to date. The cod was so moist and flakey and they nailed the char crisp on the sear. It honestly couldn’t have been better, we had no critiques.

Dessert

We ended the night with their Yuzu Key Lime Soufflé and brown butter ice cream. It was delicious and I had no complaints. This is definitely a dish for someone who loves key lime pie, so if you don’t I wouldn’t get it. They also brought out a scoop of ice cream with Happy Birthday written in chocolate on the plate and a candle which was so cute. Overall, the service was phenomenal and the food was delicious, I’d give it a 9/10. I highly recommend adding this one to your list.
